Artwork Description

“Chinoiserie my Love” is inspired by the popular 18th-century trend, Chinoiserie. This European interpretation of Chinese aesthetics romanticised all things from the Far East. Pastel colours with motifs such as pagodas & cherry blossoms were often found on the old French wallpapers. The Singapore Shophouse, which is a fusion of many styles, reminds me of this meeting of East & West. The Chinese Shophouse in this artwork is located at 2 Everton Road, Singapore.
