Chinese or Imperial guardian lions, also known colloquially in the West as “Foo-dogs or Fu-dogs” are a traditional Chinese decorative and symbolic element. The lions are always depicted in pairs, one male and one female. The Chinese believed that having a pair of guardian lions would protect the premises and ward off evil.
